In case you didn’t realise, our Pods and cottages are open all year round. Both cottages have central heating and lovely log burners to keep our guests warm in the winter months and the Pods are all insulated and have wall mounted heaters. For a peaceful wintry weekend in the Pods some of our guests bring comfort food, their own blankets and a lap top to play favourite films on to have some ‘down’ time and relax, but if you fancied getting out and about in the local area before Christmas arrives, here are a few ideas for you…
This Saturday (28th November 2015) from 10.30 am – 4pm Firstsite, Colchester’s large modern art gallery is holding a vintage fair, with live music and a fashion show. The gallery hosts a cafe in house, so you can take a break from shopping or looking round the gallery.
Opposite from Firstsite is The Minories, another smaller gallery in Colchester, which is holding a Christmas market with free entry all day on Saturday 28th November 2015. All of the items on sale are created by local artists and makers.
GO4 Cafe and Market:
GO4 Cafe and Market on Trinity Street in Colchester housed in Holy Trinity Church, is a quirky place to visit. Independent traders selling vintage clothing, rare vinyl, Moroccan wares and Spanish and Mexican food items to name but a few are all on sale here. You’ll also find a cafe and there is generally a good local musician playing. A lovely way to stay out of the cold on a weekend. More details here.
Colchester Winter Wonderland:
From November 27th 2015 until 3rd January 2016, Colchester Winter Wonderland opens in the grounds of Castle park. Make sure to book a session on the outdoor ice skating rink here, or take a walk around the grounds (look out for parts of the old roman wall as you go), visit the castle, or wander through the christmas market in the park.
On Wednesday 9th December from 3pm – 8.30pm Colchester Castle is opening it’s doors for free and it’s well worth visiting! It’s built on Roman foundations and is the largest Norman Keep in Europe. You can find out more here.
If you are sick of all things ‘Christmassy’ by now and fancy something completely different, head to ‘Jump Street’. You’ll find over 100 interconnected trampolines, so you can bounce around ‘free style’, play Dodge ball or Basketball or take a fitness class.
If that all sounds a bit much just head to the large cafe for a cup of tea. Minimum age for entry is 5 years old and do book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Finally, for a bit of pre-Christmas relaxation or maybe something for January, our local spa Lifehouse, is offering Spa, Swim and Supper evenings from £49 per person from Sunday to Friday. Do pre-book.
Arrive from 6pm to make use of the spa and pool facilities or book a treatment (this costs extra), then enjoy a delicious 3 course dinner before leaving at 10pm.
I hope you enjoy these few ideas for things to do if you are staying with us before New Year.
